What Do You Wait For?
In this immediate gratification world we live in, there are some things worth waiting for.
Automatic
[Verse 1]
Quarter in a payphone
Drying laundry on the line
Watching Sun Tea in the window
Pocket watch tellin time
Seems like only yesterday I'd get a blank cassette
Record the country countdown cause I couldn't buy it yet
If we drove all the way to Dallas just to buy an Easter dress
We'd take along a Rand McNally, stand in line to pay for gas
God knows that shifting gears ain't what it used to be
I learned to drive that 55 just like a queen, three on a tree
[Chorus]
Hey, whatever happened to waitin' your turn
Doing it all by hand
Cause when everything is handed to you
It's only worth as much as the time put in
It all just seemed so good the way we had it
Back before everything became automatic
“Automatic" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Miranda Lambert. It was released in February 2014 and served as the lead single from her fifth studio album, Platinum.

What Do You Wait For? is a new series where I hope readers will share in the comments what they wait for.
Might end up being a fun conversation!
You may not realize you’re waiting, but you are.
What Do I Wait For?
I think all of the seasons we have here on planet Earth are great, but Spring is the best, followed closely by Summer, then Autumn.
My favorite seasons, in that order.
Not a fan of Winter, but there are things I look forward to in Winter as well.
It’s early Spring.
What do I wait for that comes in early Spring?
Asparagus and morel mushrooms.
You can get asparagus all year ‘round for the most part, but not like fresh-from-the-garden-springtime-asparagus!
Mine are in 2 raised beds that are about 8 years old.
And, morels?
Only in the springtime.
The hunt is the best part.
Dried morels do not compare!
A recipe: Springtime Frittata with Morels & Asparagus
What do you wait for?
Tell me in the comments.
It doesn’t have to be seasonal, but I bet it will be…
Substack introduced “Notes” in April 2023. It’s similar to Twitter so it caused a pretty good ruckus when it was announced. I haven’t ever used Twitter, from what I observed, Twitter is a sewer, a cesspool (open sewage).
I have never been a fan of social media, in fact I feel it makes us antisocial, but Notes seems like a good forum, for now.
What is Notes?
Notes is a new space where you can publish short-form posts and share ideas with other writers and readers on Substack. Anyone will be able to see a note on Substack if they have the link. However, only signed-in users will be able to post notes and interact with other people's notes (restacking a post or note, commenting on or liking a note).
You can try it out at https://substack.com/notes.
If you click this link you will land on a page with a block that says “What's on your mind?” This is where you can post thoughts. You can also scroll to reply to posts.
Also on the page are headers “Home” and “Subscribed”
The Home view shows notes from writers you are subscribed to and writers they recommend, making up your extended network.
The Subscribed view shows notes and activity from writers you have subscribed to directly.
(You can also find Notes on the Substack app). I don’t use the app, so I am not sure what goes on there.
And if you still have questions, you can get more information on how to use Notes at this link.
I intend to participate minimally at first in Notes, and I will randomly post the What Do You Wait For? series there in addition to the Newsletter you receive in your email.
So let’s see how this works!
Wonderful, as usual...
I wait for my lilly of the valley to appear.
