Those make me smile.

That's great! I'm glad you got to write about this. You've got a neat little slice of history there.

I don't actually have a collection of anything specific but when I visit a country I like to grab something that captures the essense of it.

Then you do have a collection!

Lovely collection! I was joking with my neighbor recently that everyone I know seems to have china/porcelain from their parents or grandparents that none of us are using. I don’t use my grandparents’ china because it really isn’t my style. I suggested we set up an exchange so we can trade our respective unwanted dinnerware with each other until we find some we like! 🤣. It’s hard to let go of these things.

I think it’s the memories we don’t let go. I have four sets of china stored in our barn. Mine, my mom’s, my grandmother two sets. I have them wrapped so I can use them as I need. Don’t do much entertaining, but when I do, it’s all the fun! I always describe what we’re using to youngers…None of it is my style but who cares? When you get to a certain age the fun is the surprise of the uniqueness. Can you get what we have at Ikea? Teaching moment bout lost culture. IMHO.

They are charming. Both my parents were big time collectors and even though I could understand the fun of antiquing on day trips I am more of a minimalist. My mom collected salt cellars, a thing from the past, and I do plan on writing a newsletter about them at some point. I have saved most of her collection.

My mother-in-law collected those. She had a nice collection that went to a granddaughter. She uses them at holidays.

My mom would fill them with a few nuts or candies and put them next to each person's plate for holiday meals.

Wow, you have a nice collection.

Do you have loved ones that will happily treasure these after you are in Heaven?

I ask because ... at present I have a large collection of my parents stuff. A house full, but fortunately other family have grabbed what appealed to them. I always wonder what my girls will do with my treasures. Well, just NOT Purple Heart. They throw the contributions onto the back of the truck and drive off in a hurry.

I love your collection. They are superb. No the dressing up like Fred and Barney is not a thing I would be interested in either.

Happy Trails

Thanks!

I think my son will treasure them, after all, I dragged him along on many of the antiquing trips!

When I downsized, I boxed up what I thought would be treasured and donated the rest to a local schools resale shop. Some of my friends rented a booth in an antique shop to sell parents stuff. There are still people out there who like antiques!

Yes, I love olden treasures. I have a lot. we are downsizing now and some things I am just packing up and specifically labeling for a later thought.

The best way to go. In the future, when priorities change, you might say “why did I pack that up?”. Some I am re-un-packing - is that a word? and placing in cabinets where I can see them. Being old is unsettling.

Oh gosh,., being old is. I am trying not to think about it. I am grateful I have one daughter that loves me. My younger daughter married a controlling mean person. So, I know they will not want any of our treasures. I am looking at also sharing some of these items of memory to my nieces and even my son in laws (older daughters hubb) sister. I think treasures are wonderful. Yes, I understand re unpacking.... I suppose just being able to have treasures is a special thing about life. .... kind of like squirrels, but not
